Annabelle’s Art, collage

Annabelle’s Art is one of my first picture book projects.  The main character, Annabelle, refuses to eat, opting instead to create works of art with her food.  Like many of my other stories, it has gone through several story overhauls, but the first version is special.  I modeled all of the illustrations after famous works of art.  The image of Annabelle in the red coat is modeled after Degas’ sculpture Little Dancer of Fourteen Years.

The art for Annabelle’s Art won the PEN New England Susan P. Bloom Discovery Award, although the book was never published.
