Book 3 of the Pacey Packer Unicorn Tracker kicks off after Pacey receives a note from Zella the mog, saying that they believe they have located Arkane’s missing horn and need Pacey’s help to retrieve it.

Pacey, Mina, and Slasher use a prism pod to conjure a rainbow back to Rundalyn and soon they are on a raft, floating deep into the Dark Caverns.

The trio washes up on a beach, where they meet a mermaid named Briony. Pacey and Mina are psyched, but Slasher is not so sure. He’s heard things about mermaids, bad things, and he doesn’t trust this new fishy friend. But Briony says she knows where the horn is, and leads Pacey, Mina, and Slasher on a underwater journey.

Is Briony telling the truth? It can’t be that easy. Can it?

I love including a little peek behind-the-scenes. Here’s a comparison about how the mermaid design evolved.

I knew what a mermaid looked like, or was supposed to look like, but I still pulled up some reference photos from some other works like Harry Potter, Splash, Pirates of the Caribbean. I used any aspects I liked to make a mermaid design. Then I asked myself questions like, Will this look good in a purple-scale color scheme? Do I need to simplify it? How can I make the two mermaids look different? Once I figured all of that out, I had a design I liked and could draw over and over again.
