This story first started out with the title Slippery Sushi. It was about a pair of twins that discover a piece of sushi on the floor. Instead of cleaning it up, they try to lure family members into the room to step on it. This is based on a real experience I had when I was a child and saw a pickle slice on the floor of a restaurant. For some reason, I was transfixed by the idea that someone would step on it. People came close and the tension built. I don’t think anyone ever did step on that pickle, but I wanted to capture a child’s sense of innocent mischief in this story.
Like many of my stories, it grew and changed. It now it looks a little more like a graphic novel for young readers.
