The Simples Love a Picnic is my fourth published book. (Houghton Mifflin.) It was inspired by my love of Richard Scarry books and how so many of them were about a crazy journey.  I wanted to write a book where the simple characters wanted a simple thing – to have a picnic.  The art style is simple and the words are simple.  But then crazy things happen along the way.

For example, Lulu gets dive bombed by some birds.  Nothing simple about that!
