The Ghost in Cabin 13

The Ghost in Cabin 13 is a middle grade graphic novel about 12 1/2 year-old Leah who’s in the stage between being a girl who plays with dolls and a teenager. Her mother sends her to sleep-away camp and puts her in the teen cabin, hoping the older girls will rub-off on Leah. Leah feels homesick and awkward and just wants to play with her doll, Beverly. On the first night, the older girls arrange a séance in the forbidden Cabin 13 and things get a little spooky after that.

I never went to sleep-away camp as a kid, but I attended plenty of sleep-overs and I loved the spooky games we’d play at night. Playing Bloody Mary in a dark bathroom was about as edgy as 12-year old Julie got. Those games were so fun and exciting! I tried to capture that energy when I created the story of The Ghost in Cabin 13.
